Great cinema has the power to educate, inspire, and foster empathy across cultures. It has the unique ability to spur the imagination while providing a bridge to better understanding of lessons learned in the classroom and relevant issues of our time. From stories of youth exploring identity to films that capture historical moments and untold stories, we believe our student-focused films can be used as a powerful educational tool in developing critical thinking skills and exposure to different perspectives.

Year-round, at the Vancity Theatre, we offer students the chance to encounter some of the world's most thought provoking, diverse, and compelling films. Our student-focused matinees are available for booking from Monday – Friday and include an opportunity for educators to enhance the learning experience through pre or post screening discussions with classes inside the theatre.

Email education@viff.org to book your class in or find out more. Following the screening, invite your students to submit a student film review for a chance to be featured on our blog.
