General Questions

  • Greater Vancouver International Film Festival Society memberships are now included in the cost of all tickets.

  • Individual streaming tickets for regular year-round films are $10 each.

    VIFF+ discounts apply to all VIFF Year-Round tickets; the amount of the discount depends on whether you’re a Monthly, Bronze, Silver or Gold member. If your membership includes access to VIFF Connect Year-Round, you receive access to a curated selection of film titles for free each month, as well as discounts on select first-run titles.

    Ticket and pass prices for rentals and co-productions are at the discretion of the renter/co-producer.

    Prices include GST and PST.

VIFF Connect

  • Please note: All films on VIFF Connect can only be watched in British Columbia, Canada, unless stated otherwise. VIFF talks and events are available to stream from anywhere in the world.

    Films and talks can be viewed using individual tickets, or a VIFF+ Connect Monthly, Silver or Gold membership. You can access films through your browser or by using the VIFF Connect app for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Firestick or Android TV. See below FAQs for instructions on how to use your streaming ticket or membership.

    Ways to watch:

    • VIFF Connect app for Apple TV (4th generation or newer), Roku, Amazon Firestick or AndroidTV.
    • Your laptop or desktop computer, tablet or phone via your preferred web browser.
    • By connecting your computer to your television via an HDMI cable. (note that VIFF Connect is not compatible with Lightning HDMI adapters for Apple devices)
    • You may also be able to share the screen of your computer with your Smart TV using either Apple Airplay or Chromecast, depending on what kind of device you have.

    Keep an eye out for any events listed as ‘Livestream’ as these will take place on a specific date and at a specific time, so that you can experience them ‘live’ as they happen!

  • Tickets can be booked in advance and the website will note the date and time of the livestream. You can join the event by clicking on the ‘Watch’ button in your order confirmation email at the start time of the event. Often these events feature an audience Q&A in the chat; if you would like to participate in the chat, make sure to access the talk in the browser on your computer. Currently, the chat function is not available on the VIFF Connect app, as well as some phones and tablets.

    If you are not able to attend the livestream at the scheduled time, a recording will be made available on VIFF Connect shortly after the event. You can access the recording using the same ticket or by logging in with a VIFF+ Connect Monthly, Silver or Gold membership, and you’ll have 48 hours to complete watching from the time you click Play.

  • Simply log in to VIFF Connect as a member. Your username and password will be the same ones you use to log in to viff.org. If you forgot your password, click on ‘forgot password’ below the login section, enter your email address and you will be emailed instructions. Your password will have to be updated on viff.org before you will be able to log in to VIFF Connect.

    Once you are logged in, you can select a film you would like to see and press play. You can also create a Watch Later list in VIFF Connect by clicking on the Watch Later button on the film page.

    The films on VIFF Connect which are noted as ‘Member Discount’ are available for rent to VIFF+ members at a discounted price. Rentals can be purchased on viff.org (make sure to log in first to unlock your discount!). Once the order has been processed, you’ll be sent a confirmation email containing your streaming link. You can either click on the Watch button in the email to open the film in your browser or enter the voucher code on the VIFF Connect app (you’ll have to log out of the app in order to enter the voucher code). You’ll have 48 hours, beginning from the time you click Play, to complete watching the film.

  • Individual tickets can be purchased via viff.org.

    When you buy a ticket, you will immediately be sent an Order Confirmation from us. This will display the titles of the films you have booked, along with a voucher code and a ‘Watch Now’ button for each film.

    To view the film, you can click on the "Watch Now" button in your Order Confirmation. Once clicked, you will be taken to the film on your computer (if connected to the television, the film will play in browser and project on your television with the sound coming from your TV speakers).

    If you want to watch via Apple TV, Roku, Android TV or Amazon FireStick, you first need to download the VIFF Connect app on whichever device you are using.

    To watch films using Chromecast, simply click on the Chromecast icon in the lower right side of the video player. (Not available on Apple devices)

    Once downloaded, open the VIFF Connect app and you will have the option to enter your Voucher Code using your remote control. The film will start to play.

    Once you’ve clicked the ‘Watch Now’ button or entered your Voucher Code, you will have 48 hours to finish watching the film.

  • First, you will need to download the VIFF Connect app on to your device. The app can be found by searching for VIFF Connect in the app store / channel store on your device.

    If you have purchased an individual ticket for a film, you will have the option to enter the voucher code when you open the app. The voucher code can be found in your order confirmation email, or by logging in to your account on viff.org.

    If you are a subscriber, you will need to pair your TV with a device (computer, tablet or phone). This can be done by entering the pairing code displayed on your TV at connect.viff.org/pair. Make sure you are on the same Wifi or internet connection on both devices.

  • Windows computers:

    • Operating system: Windows 7+
    • Available RAM: 2GB
    • Supported browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge
     

    Mac computers:

    • Operating system: 10.12 and later (Sierra, High Sierra and Mojave)
    • Available RAM: 2GB
    • Supported browsers: Chrome, Firefox
      (VIFF Connect is not compatible with Safari)
     

    iPhone / iPad:

    • Operating system: 11.2 or later
    • Available RAM: 2GB
    • Supported browsers: Chrome, Firefox
      (VIFF Connect is not compatible with Safari on some Apple devices/versions)
    • Screen mirroring must be turned off to stream films. VIFF Connect is not compatible with Lightning HDMI adapters.
     

    Android tablets / phones:

    • Operating system: 6.0 or later
    • Supported browsers: Chrome, Firefox
    • Available RAM: 2GB
  • VIFF Connect uses adaptive bitrate streaming which means the streaming quality will automatically adjust according to your internet speed. If your internet connection is poor or inconsistent you may experience problems during playback. If you are using WiFi, try moving closer to your router.

    The minimum recommended internet speed for streaming is 25mbps.

    If you are experiencing problems and you have a strong internet connection, try closing any unnecessary tabs, programs or apps running in the background on your device.

  • If you are seeing this error message while located in British Columbia, and you are not using a VPN, contact us at feedback@viff.org or by calling 604-683-3456. If you are using a VPN, it must be turned off to view films.

VIFF+ Memberships

  • If you’re a new member and haven’t received your membership card, or if you’ve upgraded your membership and need to swap out your old card, don’t worry!

    All your VIFF+ membership benefits are accessible online, so there is no need to have your membership card to purchase tickets on viff.org. When the theatre re-opens for in-person screenings, you will be able to pick up your VIFF+ card and popcorn vouchers at the VIFF Centre box office.

  • Log in to your account on viff.org prior to selecting tickets to unlock your discounted price.

  • VIFF+ memberships can be purchased as a gift through a VIFF Gift Card. Gift cards can be purchased in any denomination and will be emailed to you as a PDF that you can forward to the recipient.

    1. VIFF+ members can only access one Cardholder Day per membership year.
    2. Includes VIFF and VIFF Centre memberships.
    3. VIFF Centre discounts and complimentary tickets apply to most regular screenings at the VIFF Centre. They are not valid for:
      • Screenings during the Vancouver International Film Festival.
      • Rental and private events at the VIFF Centre.
      • Special event screenings and some co-presentations.
    4. Access to events and screenings is subject to ticket availability.
    5. Benefits and prices may be subject to change but this will be communicated in advance.
    6. Deadline to join or upgrade for Cardholder Day discounts on Festival passes and ticket packs will be announced ahead of Cardholder Day.
